Inspired by the underground helicopter classic Fort Apocalypse, Shmopter sends you deep into twisting caverns on a desperate rescue mission. Pilot your helicopter through tight passages, blast enemy turrets and fortifications, and pick up stranded hostages before your fuel runs out. When fuel gets low, an on-screen indicator points you toward the nearest refueling station so you don't get stranded. Boss fights punctuate the deeper levels, each one demanding a different strategy to bring down.

Shmopter offers three ways to play. Campaign takes you through hand-crafted levels, Rescue mode generates unique cave systems with a boss at the bottom of each, and Infinite mode is a pure survival run into an endless descent. Fuel management is a constant tension -- push too deep without refueling and you won't make it back. The satisfying moment of rescuing hostages and the thrill of narrowly squeezing through a tight passage make Shmopter one of the most replayable games in the arcade.
