Inspired by the visually striking arcade classic Tempest, Shmortex places you at the rim of a geometric tube, shooting down into its depths as waves of enemies crawl up toward you. Rotate around the tube's edge to line up shots, blast geometric foes before they reach the top, and survive as the tube morphs into increasingly wild shapes with each level. The perspective is unlike any other shooter -- enemies approach from the vanishing point, growing larger and more dangerous as they climb.
The level morphing is what makes Shmortex stand out. The tube's shape changes every few levels -- from simple circles to jagged stars, open curves, and twisted geometries that completely change your sightlines and strategies. Some shapes create blind spots, others funnel enemies into choke points you can exploit. The glowing vector-style visuals are mesmerizing, and the pounding soundtrack ramps up with the intensity. It is one of those games that puts you in a trance-like flow state when everything clicks.
Shmortex is part of SHMARCADE, a collection of free retro browser games. Every run is recorded so you can watch replays of any top score on the global leaderboard, challenge friends head-to-head with shareable links, and climb the rankings. It works on desktop and mobile with touch controls -- no download, no install, just pure arcade action.
